Meet Mr. Anthony Dexter – The Great, Fearless Witch Hunter

Or at least, that’s what he calls himself.

Though he stands at just four feet tall (and insists it’s four-foot-two in boots), Mr. Dexter is absolutely convinced he is the most formidable witch hunter the world has ever seen. He wears a long brown coat that swishes when he walks and a hat much too big for his head, which he believes makes him look “mysterious and threatening.”

Mr. Dexter doesn’t live anywhere in particular. He travels from town to town, village to village, wood to wood, constantly on the lookout for witches — big ones, small ones, old ones, young ones, even ones who might just look a bit witchy. If it wears a pointy hat or owns a black cat, Dexter is suspicious.

In fact, Mr. Dexter hates witches so much that he also hates:

• Witches’ cats (especially black ones — “too shiny and smug,” he says)

• Witches’ brooms (“flying is unnatural!”)

• Witches’ tea (he once said it smelled like trouble)

Some people whisper that Mr. Dexter’s hatred of witches started when he was a boy. One Halloween, someone in his village dressed as a witch — pointy hat, green face, warty nose and all. Young Dexter was so terrified, he locked himself in his bedroom and didn’t come out again until Christmas.

Ever since then, he’s been on a mission: to hunt down every last witch and banish them back to Witch Land, where, in his opinion, they belong.

He blames witches for everything. Once, he caught a cold and loudly declared, “It’s a spell! A mucus hex!” He even accused a poor old lady’s cat of cursing his toast because it came out slightly burnt.

And of course, at the top of his list… is Kimberley the Witch.

She’s the one he’s been chasing the longest. He’s never quite caught her, which makes him absolutely furious. “Too clever for her own good,” he mutters. But he won’t give up. Not until every last witch is gone.
