Meet Caleb
Caleb is a small grey cat with thick, smoky fur and eyes as green as fresh spring leaves. He might look cute curled up in a sunny spot, but don’t be fooled — Caleb is a true hunter at heart, especially when it comes to mice.
He lives in and around the seaside town of Paignton, wandering wherever he pleases. No one quite knows if he belongs to anyone, though he seems to have a soft spot for a young witch named Kimberley. Still, most days you’ll find him prowling around church graveyards, his tail flicking behind him like a shadow. He often naps on old tombstones, stretched out like a king surveying his quiet kingdom.
Caleb is much more of a night cat than a daytime one. As the sun goes down and the town grows quiet, that’s when Caleb comes alive. The night is his domain, and he rules it with silent paws and sharp claws. Mice beware.
He’s also surprisingly agile for such a sleepy-looking cat. Once, when someone stepped on his tail — quite by accident, of course — Caleb leapt six feet straight into the air, yowling like a banshee. Before the poor soul could apologise, Caleb had already scratched the back of their leg and disappeared into the shadows. Swift justice, feline-style.
Despite his independent ways, Caleb has his soft spots. He adores fish (especially when Kimberley sneaks him a bite), and he loves curling up in her lap while she reads under her favourite tree by the sea. On cold nights, he can be found snoozing in front of the fire in Kimberley’s cottage, purring like a tiny engine.
To most, he’s just a mysterious cat who roams the night.
But to Kimberley, he’s a loyal companion — her one true friend in a world that doesn’t understand her.
And if anyone ever tried to hurt her… well, let’s just say Caleb’s claws aren’t just for mice.
